The term “Youth Band” has normally been associated with a group of teens who get together to play for their fellow youth group friends songs which they heard at camp or on Sundays while simply trying to stay in tune.

Today the band is setting out to change that definition at St. John to be bigger and bolder in an effort to more directly connect with the youth of our church and surrounding community. The band formally known as “The Youth Band” will from this point forward be referenced and known as “G.F.S.” Under the "About Us" page click on , “What We Believe”, you will find the basis for the band’s original namesake.

History of g.f.s.

Being Lutheran, our congregation accepts and teaches Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. The teaching of Luther and the reformers can be summarized in these short phrases.

But is that all? GFS is reaching out beyond its original beginnings to hopefully fill everyone’s heart with love and joy and the word of God within and beyond the range of the music.  In the few days following the decision on a band name, the following was witnessed.

Matthew 25:23 23 "His master replied, 'Well done, Good and Faithful Servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' What have you witnessed?

The efforts of those involved with the band including the AV support team and the band itself feel it important to not only reach out to the youth through scripture but through something everyone enjoys and can actively participate in…..MUSIC.  Whether it be standards by Casting Crowns or Mercy Me, all the way to Toby Mac and Planetshakers, GFS members feel the best way to communicate with their peers is to spread God’s word through close contact devotion and harmonic overtones.

The band will primarily be comprised of youth members who are preparing for confirmation or who have already completed their classes alongside more experienced members of the congregation who are moved by the energy of this group, who may be standing in from time to time if there is a vacancy or just feel the need to help mentor and help these musicians excel at what they do.  The band will perform for the Wednesday Night Live gathering but are not restricted to this event alone.  Performances include Vacation Bible School, The Wave, church services, Christmas programs, outreach VBS programs at other locations and ultimately perform at Camp Lone Star or other youth gatherings.

The pathways are unwritten for these Grace Filled Servants who simply want to play their music and spread God’s word to anyone listening, especially the youth.
